CORWES is a Spanish consortium of research groups using the Weather Research and Forecasting (WRF) model to contribute to the Coordinated Regional Climate Downscaling Experiment (CORDEX). One of its main purposes is to foster knowledge transfer and coordination among research groups using WRF.Taking advantage of the sponsorship by the newly created Atlantic Research Centre on Environmental and Climate Change, the University of La Laguna (Tenerife, Spain) is organizing the First CORDEX-WRF Workshop, followed by a more technical CORWES/WRF4G hands-on tutorial. Both will be held in Tenerife, Canary Islands, on 1 to 5 october 2012.

The main goal of the workshop is to bring together scientists using the WRF model in the CORDEX initiative or, more generally, using it as a dynamical downscaling tool in climate modeling.

The objective is to produce a rigorous state-of-the-knowledge frame, to improve the coordination of the different efforts for every CORDEX region and engage in collaboration. The following aspects will be highlighted:

The conference will consist of two segments. The first (1-3 October) will be devoted to a review of the status and main issues of climate modeling using WRF and will include invited and contributed papers and will foster open discussion. The second segment (4-5 October) will consist in hands-on laboratory sessions for training in Work-flow WRF management frameworks like WRF4G, WRF code modifications for regional climate purposes like CLWRF and post-processing tools.
